New Covenant Meaning

Wisdom Is Speaking, and She Says Riches Come With Her

Proverbs 8 is one of the most remarkable chapters in the Old Testament. Wisdom is personified and given a voice, and in verse 18 she makes a direct claim: riches and honor are with me. Not near me. Not sometimes connected to me. With me. Wherever Wisdom goes, riches and honor travel with her as part of the package. This is not the language of aspiration. It is the language of possession: these things belong to wisdom, they accompany her. The person who walks in wisdom is not walking away from material blessing. They are walking toward the one who carries it.

In Christ You Have Wisdom, So You Have What Wisdom Carries

First Corinthians 1:30 makes a statement that changes how you read Proverbs 8: God has made Christ to be your wisdom. Jesus did not just teach wisdom. He became wisdom for you. That means the personified Wisdom of Proverbs 8 finds her fullest expression in Jesus. And that Wisdom says riches and honor are with her, enduring riches and righteousness. If you are in Christ, you are in the one who IS wisdom. You are not pursuing something external. The question is not how to acquire wisdom so that riches follow. The question is whether you recognize what is already yours in the one who became your wisdom at the cross.

The word translated enduring in verse 18 is the Hebrew atiq, which carries the idea of lasting, permanent, durable. This is not flash-and-vanish wealth that comes and goes with market cycles. Wisdom carries riches with staying power. The pairing with righteousness at the end of the verse ties material abundance directly to right standing before God, showing these are not separate categories. In the Kingdom economy, enduring wealth and right standing belong together.

Application for Your Life

You Are Already in the One Who Carries Riches and Honor

Most believers approach wealth as something they need to acquire through the right behaviors or spiritual disciplines. Proverbs 8:18 read through 1 Corinthians 1:30 suggests a different starting point. You are already in Christ, who is your wisdom. Wisdom declares that riches and honor are with her. Your posture is not one of striving toward something distant. It is one of recognizing what is already available because of who you are in. This is not passivity; it is the correct starting position. Faith sees from a place of having, not from a place of lack.

Pursue Wisdom and the Rest Comes With It

Jesus said seek first the Kingdom and all these things will be added (Matthew 6:33). That aligns exactly with what Wisdom says here. She does not say pursue riches and maybe find wisdom along the way. She says riches and honor are with me. The right pursuit is wisdom, and the right result is abundance attached to that pursuit. In practical terms: orient your life around Kingdom alignment, around growing in the knowledge of God and walking in covenant with Him, and the material dimension follows the spiritual reality. Wisdom carries it. You carry wisdom because you are in Christ.

Prayer Based on This Verse

Father, I see what Your Word says. Wisdom carries riches and honor with her, enduring riches and righteousness. And You have made Christ my wisdom. I am in the one who IS wisdom. I am not chasing something that has not been given. I am recognizing what is already mine in Him. I align my thinking with what You have declared. Enduring wealth and righteousness belong to the person walking in wisdom, and that person is me because of what Jesus accomplished. I receive that today as a present reality, not a distant hope. In Jesus name. Amen.
