Malachi 3:10-12
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field," says the LORD of hosts. "And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land," says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:10-12 (NKJV)
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe," says the LORD Almighty. "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty.
Malachi 3:10-12 (NIV)
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:10-12 (KJV)
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the LORD of hosts, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe," says the LORD of hosts. "Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight," says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:10-12 (NLT)
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:10-12 (ESV)
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and put Me to the test now in this," says the LORD of armies, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground for you; nor will your vine in the field drop its grapes," says the LORD of armies. "All the nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land," says the LORD of armies.

"Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings far beyond your wildest dreams. For my part, I will defend you against marauders, protect your wheat fields and vegetable gardens against plunderers." The Message of God-of-the-Angel-Armies. New Covenant Meaning
What Is Tithing?
Tithing is bringing the first ten percent of your income to God. Not ten percent of what is left after bills. The first ten percent, off the top, before anything else. That is what makes it a first-fruits offering. You are declaring with your money that God is your source and that He gets the first and best, not the leftovers. Where does it go? To the place where you are spiritually fed. For most people reading this, that is your local church. Your tithe funds the mission, keeps the lights on, pays the staff, and allows your pastor to focus fully on his calling instead of splitting his time trying to make ends meet. When you tithe to your local church, you are not just giving money. You are investing in the spiritual environment that feeds and grows you. It is worth knowing that tithing did not start with the Law of Moses. Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek 430 years before the Law existed (Genesis 14:20). This has never been about legal obligation. It has always been a covenant response to a generous God.
The Only Place God Invites Testing
Malachi 3:10 is one of the most remarkable verses in all of Scripture. God actually invites you to test Him. This is the only place in the Bible where God says prove Me in this. He knew money would be the sticking point for most people, so He said fine, test Me right here. The Hebrew bachan (try Me, test Me, prove Me) is the same word used in Psalm 34:8: "taste and see that the LORD is good." Everywhere else, testing God is prohibited (Deuteronomy 6:16). Here it is commanded. The difference is the nature of the test. This is not a demand that God prove Himself on human terms. It is God issuing an invitation within the terms He has already set: bring the tithes, and see whether I will not open the windows of heaven. Step into the covenant provision and watch what happens. Under the New Covenant, 2 Corinthians 9:6 and 9:8 confirm the same principle: you reap what you sow, and God is able to make all grace abound toward you so that you have all sufficiency in everything and an abundance for every good work.
God does not stop at verse 10. He keeps going and stacks four specific promises for the tither. Promise 1: The windows of heaven open above your life and pour out blessing so large you cannot contain it all (v. 10). Promise 2: God personally rebukes the devourer for your sake. Your money stops getting eaten up. Your crops are abundant. The vine does not fail (v. 11). Promise 3: Your land is fruitful. What you put your hand to produces. The fruit stays (v. 11). Promise 4: People around you notice. All nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land (v. 12). Your life becomes a testimony. People start asking questions. That is the tither's life. If you are not tithing and your money feels like it gets devoured the moment it hits your account, that is not a coincidence. Without the covenant protection of the tithe active in your life, the devourer has access he would not otherwise have. One decision changes all of that.
Application for Your Life
Generosity Is the Posture That Opens Heaven
Malachi 3:10 establishes a direct connection between giving and the opening of heaven's provision over your life. The New Covenant confirms the same thing in 2 Corinthians 9: the one who sows generously reaps generously. God is not looking for you to hit a minimum threshold before He releases blessing. He is looking for a heart that looks like His. Generous. Open-handed. Giving from trust instead of hoarding from fear. The tithe is not the ceiling. For the New Covenant believer, it is the starting point from which cheerful, grace-motivated giving grows.
God Is Your Guarantor, Not Your Accumulation
Giving works because it is an act of faith. When you tithe, you are declaring that God is your source. Not your paycheck. Not your savings account. Not your own ability to hold things together. That declaration positions you to receive. Philippians 4:19 says He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. He is not a reluctant provider waiting to be paid first. He is a generous Father whose windows are ready to open over anyone who trusts Him. The generous God behind Malachi 3:10 is the exact same God behind 2 Corinthians 9:8.
Prayer Based on This Passage
Father, I take You up on Your invitation. You said to test You in this, to bring the tithes and see whether You will not open the windows of heaven and pour out blessing until there is not room enough to receive it. I come before You with an open hand and an open heart. I give not from compulsion but from trust. You are my source. My provision comes from You, not from my own accumulation. I align myself with the posture of the generous giver You describe in 2 Corinthians 9. I plant seed generously. I trust You as the one who multiplies the seed and increases the harvest. Open the windows. I receive the outpouring. And I hold it with an open hand so it can flow through me to others. In Jesus name. Amen.
